As my mum is very ill and sometimes has to go into hospital at short notice I didn’t want to travel too far on our holidays this year. My sister Joanna lives in Scotland and she is brilliant at coming over to stay and help out with changing mums dressings etc while I’m away but I like to know I can jump in the car and get back home fairly quickly so this was obviously a factor when deciding where to go.  We had been to Redcastle Hotel & Spa a few years ago and stayed in the beautiful Quigley Suite and it was one of the most relaxing holidays we’ve ever had so when I found out it was available, for the week we wanted to go, I was delighted!  Redcastle Hotel & Spa is situated in the Inishowen Peninsula in Moville, Co Donegal and is just around an hour & half drive from where we live so the location was perfect. The Hotel is really lovely and has lots of little seating areas dotted around to sit and read magazines or just relax with a coffee. There are two restaurants to choose from, the Captain’s Bar which is relaxed and informal or the formal dining room ,The Edge Restaurant, which boasts beautiful views across the water whilst serving the most delicious food.  We ate in both and thoroughly enjoyed every single bite!!

The Quigley Suite is a beautifully decorated huge room with a balcony over the water and it’s so relaxing I could have stayed for much longer!! This says a lot as I am the ultimate home bird and have previously gone on holiday and immediately wanted to go home if it’s not just how I imagined it would be!  This suite has everything you would want and has a very restful feel to it, the sound of the water lapping outside makes you feel as though you are floating on a boat and it is just wonderful to awake to such a beautiful view and at night watch the sun setting and reflecting on the water. I always take little travel candles on holiday with me and on this occasion I also took some battery fairylights for the balcony as it’s just such a pretty spot to have lots of twinkling lights.

On our last visit the room was decorated in purples and when we arrived I immediately noticed it had been beautifully redecorated in gorgeous pinks and creams. There are two comfy sofas and a coffee table in the seating area next to the double doors opening onto the balcony and is a perfect spot to sit and enjoy the view.

The hotel very kindly treated us to an afternoon tea and I can honestly say that it was the most delicious afternoon tea I’ve ever had from the lovely sandwiches, freshly baked scones and yummy little macarons and cakes. This combined with the stunning view made it an experience to remember.

The hotel has a 9 hole golf course as well as a lovely pool and spa and there are lots of pretty little areas to go such as Fahan Marina and Greencastle Harbour. We took a run to Donegal town and also to the world famous Belleek Pottery which was super busy with tourists.

We also took a run to Malin Head which has the most stunning views normally but unfortunately on that day it was very foggy so I didn’t get any pics.

All in all we had a fabulously relaxing time in stunning surroundings and I’m already planning our next visit!!
